How do you feel about the caring work that you do?
What value do you place on the time you take and the patience you show in your mothering?
Do you feel valued as a mother by your family?
What about by society?
This episode explores the idea that society doesn’t place much value on the mental load and work of motherhood. This is a real problem but the empowering solution is that as mothers, we are the foundation of society and so we have the responsibility and opportunity to shift the views of society.
How? By changing the way we value ourselves and the work we do in our own home and lives.
The beautiful side effect of this is that when we value something we take more time to do it with the care and attention it deserves so by valuing our mothering work we are likely to tend to it in a more caring way!
As my therapist said to me, “when you learn to value what you do and who you are, things will change”. For more detail on THAT conversation and how I became brave enough to face myself, you’ll have to tune into the full episode!
